Urban Mutts offers amenities like acupuncture, reiki, massages, heated and ventilated sleep huts with LED mood lighting and custom elevated beds, and of course, room service.
There’s an onsite spa that features nail treatments and wash’n’go. Located just a short walk from London’s West End is the world’s first luxury experience for doggies.
Like a Soho House for pooches, Urban Mutts is the creation of Barry Karacostas who goes by @thedogjogger on social media. He has been working on keeping pets healthy and fit for years, working with clientele like Elle Macpherson and Guy Ritchie.
Karacostas says that conventional kennels do not understand the needs of urban, elite dogs are, who need their R&R, ruff and roaming. He told Robb Report: “Dogs going for care in the countryside is fine if you’re with them, [if] the family goes together, but a dog that predominantly lives in the city needs to stay there. They need consistency, as they don’t understand why they’re going from one place to the other.”
The initiation fee to join the membership is about $207, which covers the lifetime of the dog. Owners can then choose which services they would like to use.
Services include of course daycare, but also bootcamp and fitness classes, as well as grooming. To book a quick overnight stay, it costs $97, but for a week or more, the overnight price is $70 per night.
Dogs can stay at Urban Mutts for up to three months at what they call pet-friendly sleepaway camp, so owners who are going on a long-term trip can be calm knowing that their dogs are in great hands and are having the best care.
Urban Mutts had a soft opening already but will fully open in 2021. Pet ownership had increased by 4% in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so it makes sense that more pet owners will need boarding and care services like Urban Mutts.
Karacostas shared that: “Our commitment to the owner is as strong as our commitment to the dog. A happy owner makes a happy dog, and vice versa.”
