Whenever you’re heading onto a road trip, once you have your destinations and road maps all figured out, it’s time to get your supplies together. You need to pack clothes, emergency equipment, and of course, rations for the road. There are many different things you can pack when it comes to road trip food, but some choices are certainly better than others. Here are some of the best options you can take along with you that are healthy, filling, and most importantly, satisfying.
Beef Jerky
Beef jerky is a classic road trip snack for a reason. Since it contains a punch of protein it will satisfy your hunger for a long period of time. Try to avoid gas station jerky and look for the more natural options that contain grass-fed beef and no preservatives. Better yet, try to find one that is low sodium.
Popcorn
Popcorn is a fantastic option as it is full of fiber and is made up of complex carbs that will help keep you energized while you are on the road. Microwave popcorn is not the best choice, so if you can, go for the natural kernels or a pre-prepared bag of natural popcorn whose ingredients consist of only popcorn, salt, and oil.
Hard Boiled Eggs
Hard boiled eggs are an egg-cellent (sorry, we had to) choice because they are easy to prepare ahead of time and come in their own protective case. When you’re ready to eat, simply peel and enjoy. You can combine hard boiled eggs with other road-friendly snacks like crackers and yogurt to enjoy a filling and delicious snack.
Protein Bars
These come with a caveat, as not all protein bars are created equal. Some are merely glorifies candy bars, so try to some that are made of natural ingredients and don’t contain an insane amount of added sugar, which plenty of bars out there do. Try to find ones that are higher in protein and lower in added sugar.
String Cheese
String cheese isn’t just for kids, we promise. They’re a perfect snack that also take up time if you want, as you can peel them apart at your own pace. However, if you’re more in a rush, you can chomp down on it like regular old cheese. Pair it with an apple and you’ll be full for quite some time.
Grapes
Grapes are a perfect choice because they’re fun to eat, especially when you’re bored. There’s really nothing quite as refreshing as crunchy grapes that are satisfyingly sweet and will provide you with hydration.
